Why These Books?

I don't often explore a lot of different authors when I read, nor do I explore a lot of different categories - I primarily stick to Sci-Fi. I tend to stick with an author and read all of their books, even if I don't love what I'm reading. If I hate what I'm reading, I'll move on, but generally I'll power through if I can. Anyways, I got started reading the Dune series, which... is a bit more of an intense reading experience than what I had originally expected. You have to learn the vocabulary of the world and then read critically with that vocabulary in mind. The previous author I read, Michael Crichton, was much more approachable. He had a pretty wide variety of books, and some I enjoyed more than others, but they were all really well written.

I chose God Emperor of Dune and Heretics of Dune as my next two books because I want to continue reading the original series in order rather than jumping between unrelated stories. I'm looking forward to seeing how the Dune series continues to develop its political and religious themes, and whether the later books help me better understand the bigger picture Herbert was trying to communicate.
